The 276 acre park is a Local Nature Reserve with a proud mining heritage. It is now a popular destination for people to visit for fresh air and exercise on the many paths, see spectacular scenery from the viewing platforms, entertain the children on the play areas and to enjoy good food and drink at the wonderful Café 1899.

The park welcomes well behaved owners and their dogs and has different zones to keep all visitors and residents of the park safe.
Please keep your dog on a lead in the park’s busier areas including the car parks, around the children’s play area and the visitor centre.
There are many green zone areas in the park, where dogs can be off their lead, but still must be under control.
Dogs must be kept out of the grazing grasslands.
The park has been awarded Green Flag status every year since it opened. The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, rewards well-managed parks and green spaces. To find out more about how the park is maintained and developed, read the park management plan.
The park is accessible for pushchairs, wheelchairs and people with mobility issues from the Spring Lane entrance. There are designated parking bays for people with disabilities and the visitor centre has a Changing Places facility which includes height adjustable changing benches, a tracking hoist system, space for people with disabilities and carers, a central toilet and a non-slip floor.
Access to the Changing Places room is available with a radar key. Please ask in the café or at the hatch for a key if you need one.
The park’s High Hazels (signposted blue) route is suitable for wheelchair users and only has gentle slopes.
The café is fully accessible, both indoors and also on the outdoor decking area.
