The Ivan Gollop
Bee garden
The Ivan Gollop bee garden
The park houses a bee friendly garden, which was designed by local garden designer Jimmy McAdam. The garden was first displayed at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Flower Show at Tatton Park in 2018. Jimmy was chosen as a young designer finalist.
The garden is designed to be a haven for pollinators and showcases the potential of nature when it is left undisturbed. It is a wonderful place to sit and simply enjoy watching wildlife. You can find out more about the garden at the RHS website.
A place to relax
Jimmy donated the garden to Gedling Borough Council after the Tatton Park show and the council arranged for it to be installed in the country park as a picnic and relaxation area for all visitors to enjoy. It has since been added to with more plants and benches made locally by Men In Sheds.
The garden is dedicated to the memory of former Gedling Borough Council leader Ivan Gollop. As well as a politician, Ivan was an environmental campaigner and schoolteacher.
The garden is packed with plants that bees love. Look out for:
- Flowering Cherry
- Guelder Rose
- Buddleia
- Lavender
- Honeysuckle
- Hawthorn
You can find the garden just down the path from the children’s play area and visitor centre.
